“WE CHOOSE SOLIDARITY OVER EXPLOITATION, LIVELIHOOD OVER SPECTACLE, AND COLLECTIVE POWER OVER CORPORATE PROFIT.” — A4A:MIA
BASEL BOYCOTT PLEDGE
This is an invitation to the arts community in Miami, South Florida, and beyond:
How can we redirect resources back into our local arts ecosystem and divest from extractive enterprises like Art Basel?
Every December, Art Basel and Miami Art Week attract art audiences, collectors, and galleries from around the world, generating millions in revenue and capital. This year, the fair is expected to generate approximately $570 million for South Florida’s economy. Estimates suggest that spending will go mostly into hospitality, short-term rentals, and real estate.
The Art Basel Miami Beach ecosystem, which includes satellite fairs, parties, and corporate deals, prioritizes profits over people, fuels gentrification and the displacement of our communities, disregards ongoing injustices, and contributes to environmental degradation.
NO MORE PROFIT OVER PEOPLE!
